Jackson Pollack mastered the artistic style of abstract expressionism known as action painting.

He wouldn't use an easel when he created his wildly imaginative and emotional works. Instead, Pollock placed a giant canvas on the floor and would use rapid, spontaneous brushstrokes sometimes even splashing and spattering the paint.

The artist even earned the nickname "Jack the Dripper" because of his unique techniques.
