Band-Aid is actually the trademark name for bandages produced by Johnson & Johnson, but it has become the generic term for what parents everywhere put on scraped knees and elbows.

It's one of those things that has been permanently burned into our cultural lexicon. Sultry singer Barry Manilow had something to do with that.

Did you know that in the early 1970s he was working as a writer of commercial jingles? Manilow came up with the "I am stuck on Band-Aid brand, cause Band-Aid's stuck on me!"
