Just Your Type!

These cool checks show you the evolution of the keyboard. But there's more to the story than just the change from typewriters to smartphones.

Ever wonder why the letters on a keyboard aren't in alphabetical order?

The so-called QWERTY keyboard layout was devised by a newspaper man named Christopher Sholes from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In the 1870s, he built one of the earliest typewriters, but found it jammed up quite often because people would type so fast.

Some say that Sholes wanted to slow his typists down. But in reality, he closely studied letter usage to create an efficient typing device that would cut down on typos without cutting out speed. Of course, we're still using it today!
