The speed of light is a mind-blowing 186,000 miles a second. But quite recently, two teams of physicists were able to make light stand still!

By passing it through specially prepared containers of gas - researchers from Harvard came up with a way to cause a beam of light to slow down, stop and then they could send it on its way again.

Even professors at MIT were amazed at the discovery. "Who ever thought that you could make light stand still?" Dr. Seth Lloyd told the New York Times.
